Corrugated board only bears weight edge-on, along the flutes. Lay a box on its side and the same load that a flutes-up box shrugs off makes it buckle — the liner wrinkles and it gives way. It is the most common packing mistake, and the one you never see on our van.

Heavy-low, the way a van is packed
The van is loaded like this page is stacked: the heaviest goes on the deck and bears the load; lighter, fragile boxes ride on top and bear almost nothing. A double-wall carton — this box — takes the same load as a single-wall box and crushes barely a fifth as far.
